To promote exchange and cooperation between the semiconductor industries of India and Taiwan, the India Taipei Association (ITA), India’s Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY), the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), and SEMI co-hosted the "India-Taiwan Semiconductor Summit" today (30th). In addition to discussing the current status and development prospects of India's semiconductor industry, the forum also delved into future opportunities for international cooperation.

Due to geopolitical factors, global trade and economic structures are shifting, with the reorganization of global supply chains. India has launched the “India Semiconductor Mission (ISM)” incentive program in 2021 to attract foreign investment and foster collaboration between local companies and foreign technology partners to promote the growth of semiconductor and display manufacturing, alongside long-term strategic planning. With three major advantages—policy incentives, economic resilience, and demographic dividend—India is positioning itself to become the next global semiconductor manufacturing hub. With strong government support and growing digital demand, India’s semiconductor market is expected to exceed USD 55 billion by 2026. PwC also forecasts that the output value of India's electronics manufacturing sector will surpass USD 300 billion by 2030.

During the summit, Indian officials outlined the country's strategies to become a major player in the semiconductor industry. Representatives from MeitY and ISM shared insights into India's semiconductor market outlook, development opportunities, and current trends, further fostering cooperation between Taiwan’s semiconductor and electronics sectors and their Indian counterparts.

Manharsinh Laxmanbhai Yadav, Director General of the India Taipei Association, opened the summit by saying, "‘IT’ is a key symbol of India-Taiwan bilateral relations. India and Taiwan complement each other economically. Each nation has strong advantages that can mutually enhance the other. For instance, India’s robust innovation and design capabilities can be realized through Taiwan's excellence in production and manufacturing, benefiting both innovative societies."

Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI, added, "India, with its inherent economic strengths, is inviting the world to produce and source semiconductors in India through its India Semiconductor Mission. From talent availability and policy support to a highly attractive market demand, India has all the elements required to develop into a hub for semiconductor design and manufacturing. India is building a strong supply chain to meet the exponential growth demand in the coming years. SEMICON India will serve as a platform that brings together all stakeholders, establishing win-win partnerships and driving the development of India's ecosystem."

S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, outlined India’s semiconductor industry strategy and future outlook, stating, "India is actively advancing its semiconductor industry through various strategies, including favorable policies, financial incentives, technological support, and talent development programs. The industry has grown rapidly in recent years. In the future, we hope to strengthen partnerships with mature semiconductor markets like Taiwan to fulfill India’s commitment to a resilient, diversified, and trusted semiconductor supply chain."

Terry Tsao, Chief Marketing Officer of SEMI and President of SEMI Taiwan, further commented, "Semiconductors are a key driver of Taiwan's economic growth, and its critical role in the global supply chain is undeniable. India, with its strong domestic demand, top international companies, outstanding R&D and innovation capabilities, and government support, is poised to secure its place in the Asian semiconductor landscape. Supporting semiconductor companies in exploring opportunities for cooperation with India and the global industry is our unwavering goal."

The successful hosting of the India-Taiwan Semiconductor Summit marks a new chapter in the cooperation and development of the semiconductor industries of both countries, fostering closer exchanges and collaboration. With joint efforts, India is set to become a significant force in the global semiconductor industry, working alongside Taiwan to inject new momentum and vitality into the global semiconductor market and to build a new landscape for the semiconductor sector.
